The Dog Days of Summer is the time that usually spans between June 3 and August 11. This point in the year brings to mind sweltering, oppressive heat and something to be avoided. Sounds like a good time to escape and take a vacation. Some think the term Dog Days refers to something so hot and unbearable that it’s a time ‘not fit for a dog’. Actually, this time of year got named because of the Sun’s alignment. During this month the Sun occupies the same region in the sky as the star Sirius. While Sirius is the brightest star visible from Earth it is also part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog or sometimes called the Dog Star.
Looking at this from a different perspective, how can anything negative be associated with a dog? After all, they are man’s, and woman’s, best friends. They are known to be faithful, loyal, and at your side whether you’re having a good or bad day. They are known to have good instincts and a calming effect on those around them. Awesome stressbusters! Overall a dog is open to new experiences and conscientious enough to possess the trait to not only complete a task but to do it well.
